125CC or full license?

As I said before, after taking my CBT I was planning to take my full license as soon as I could afterwards so that I could get a bigger bike straight away.

After thinking about this some more I have decided that financially a 125cc makes more sense at the moment as it is cheap to buy, insure, run and maintain and gets me on a bike again as quickly as possible.

Looking into the full access test route more, it will cost almost £1000 if I pass first time and once the test is done there is still the expense of a bike insurance etc afterwards Obviously if you fail the cost goes up.

When talking to my trainer he recommended getting a 125cc straight away while I saved for the test as the bike will pay for itself in terms of parking (not an issue at the moment) and petrol in about a year of commuting. And then using it after this is pretty much all money in the bank!

After thinking about this more I have decided that for this year at least I will purchase a 125cc bike and use this to commute to work and back which is about 50 miles a day and as I said before is currently costing me about £500 a month at the moment. My car is also getting tired as it is 15 years old and was bought originally to last the year but is working fine so I haven’t felt the need to change it yet. I am currently looking into swapping it for a van but that is for another blog 🙂

Once the bike is paid for (6-8 months hopefully) I will start saving for the test and then for a bigger bike once the test has been passed. Honestly I am not in any great rush to get a bigger bike at the moment and my ideal bike is only a 250cc anyway so it is not much of a performance increase over the 125cc.
